Upgrading and Impact of Hotel Supplies Hygiene and Safety Standards in the Post-pandemic Era
In the post-pandemic era, the hygiene and safety standards for hotel supplies have been fully upgraded, becoming a core constraint and competitive highlight for industry development. Globally, 23 new hygiene-related standards for hotel supplies were added from 2024 to 2025.
Among them, the EU's "Hotel Hygiene and Safety Certification System" clearly requires that the total number of bacterial colonies in linen washing be ≤200 CFU/100cm², which is 50% stricter than the previous standard. China has issued the "Hygiene Management Specifications for Public Place Supplies", raising the requirement for the disinfection pass rate of hotel tableware and sanitary ware to 100%, and non-compliant enterprises will face a maximum fine of 500,000 yuan.
Technological innovation helps the implementation of standards. The application rate of silver ion antibacterial linen in high-end hotels has increased from 22% in 2022 to 58% in 2025, and the procurement volume of ultraviolet intelligent disinfection equipment has increased by 47% annually. Although the cost side is affected, hygiene upgrades have increased the procurement cost of single-room supplies by 8%-12%, in the long run, hygiene and safety have become the primary consideration for consumers when choosing hotels, and compliant enterprises have an average OTA score 0.6 points higher than the industry average.
